Movie Night: Supersize Me 1/22/13 6:30-8:30

We are hosting a free movie night. Our theme this month is in taking real action to support permanent weight loss. On 1/12 we are starting a 9 day weight loss program and on 1/19 we are following that up with a 21 day detox program. The idea is to start the year off feeling inspired. On 2/12 will be our first Words & Wellbeing book club meeting. The book is about creating a conscious relationship with eating and food. On 2/19 we will have a celebration dinner and raffle with the people who have completed the programs. We have found that these events help us to support you in building community. People who are engaged in supportive relationships experience better health and quality of life. We want to support you in joyfully creating a network to support your life!

eventstarburstisolated

Listen to the Lecture The Commonwealth Club Presents: Mental Acuity and Traditional Chinese Medicine

John Nieters, Doctor of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine; President, Academy of Chinese Culture & Health Sciences; Licensed Acupuncturist

One of the major concerns voiced to physicians today is fear of dementia. Worldwide, nearly 36 million people are believed to be living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. By 2030, it is expected that this number will increase to nearly 66 million. Unfortunately, it is not widely known that the majority of dementia cases are preventable. Traditional Chinese Medicine has much to offer in the area of dementia prevention and brain health. Nieters will discuss the importance of blood stasis in geriatric diseases, particularly regarding brain health and various lesser known, secondary diagnostic markers for mental decline.

Commonwealth Club of SF: Brain Health & Dementia Prevention 1/15/13

One of the major concerns voiced to physicians today is fear of dementia.  Worldwide nearly 36 million people are believed to be living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. By 2030, it is expected that this number will increase to nearly 66 million. Unfortunately, it is not widely known that the majority of dementia cases are preventable.  Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has much to offer in the area of dementia prevention and brain health. Yan De-xin is one of the leading doctors in the People’s Republic of China today. His theories on blood stasis and aging have revolutionized 2,000 years of TCM geriatrics.  Traditionally, the aging process was largely ascribed to vacuity of the spleen and kidney. In the classics it says, ‘yang ming’s decline at age 35’. In modern practice, blood stasis is central to the TCM treatment of many of the diseases that affect the elderly.

In this lecture, Dr. John Nieters, L.Ac. DAOM will discuss the importance of blood stasis in geriatric diseases, particularly in regards to brain health and various lesser known, secondary diagnostic markers for mental decline. This will be Dr. Nieters’s third talk at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. He is very excited to cover this topic as it is a major fear of the Baby Boomer generation and Traditional Chinese Medicine can offer tremendous hope for healthy aging.
